Install Ruger RXM Compensator
Follow this guide to properly install your Ruger RXM compensator and ensure reliable performance.
Tools and Components Needed:
- Ruger RXM Pistol
- Threaded Barrel (compatible with RXM)
- Ruger RXM Compensator by: Rook Precision (provided)
- Allen Wrench for Set Screws (provided)
- 2X Set Screws (provided)
- Thread Locker (optional)
Step 1: Ensure the Ruger RXM is Unloaded
Safety First: Before beginning, ensure your Ruger RXM is completely unloaded. Remove the magazine and check the chamber to confirm there is no ammunition present.
Step 2: Disassemble the Ruger RXM Slide
Remove the Slide: Similar to a glock, pull the slide slightly to the rear and pull down on the takedown lever. Release the slide and guide it forward off the frame.
Remove the Barrel: Remove the recoil spring assembly, then slide the barrel forward and out of the slide.
Step 3: Attach the Threaded Barrel
Install the Threaded Barrel: If your Ruger RXM is not already equipped with a threaded barrel, install it now. Insert the threaded barrel into the slide just like the factory barrel.
Step 4: Install the Rook Precision Compensator
Thread the Compensator: Align the compensator with the barrel threads and thread it on by hand. Ensure the compensator is aligned with the slide and allows the barrel to fully seat.
If the barrel does not fully seat, back the compensator off one full rotation at a time until proper fitment is achieved.
Install the Set Screws: Tighten each set screw evenly by hand until they are seated against the shoulder of the barrel. Once all screws are snug, check alignment and rotate the compensator firmly by hand to confirm there is no movement. Re-tighten as needed.
Check set screws regularly before and after use.
- Optional: Apply a very small amount of purple thread locker to the set screws for additional security. Use very sparingly to avoid difficulty during removal.
- Important: We do NOT recommend applying thread locker to the threads of the barrel.
Pro Tip #1: After approximately 20 rounds, the barrel and compensator will be warm. Re-tighten the set screws at this time to help ensure a secure fit. This may eliminate the need for thread locker.
Pro Tip #2: If you have difficulty removing the set screws later, apply heat to loosen the thread locking compound. A heat gun, butane torch, or soldering iron can be used to apply direct heat to the set screws.
Step 5: Reassemble the Pistol
Reattach the Slide: Place the slide back onto the frame and reassemble the pistol by reversing the steps used to disassemble it.
- Reinstall the Recoil Spring/Guide Rod Assembly
- Attach the Slide: Pull the RXM slide all the way back
- Function Check: Perform a function check to ensure the firearm is operating correctly.
Step 6: Check Alignment and Fit
Inspect the Ruger RXM Compensator: Ensure that the compensator is properly aligned with the slide and that there is no interference with the slide’s movement.
Test the Slide Function: Manually cycle the slide several times to confirm smooth operation and secure fitment.
Step 7: Test Fire
Live Fire Test: Test fire your Ruger RXM at a safe range. Confirm proper function and ensure the compensator remains secure. Re tighten the set screws if needed.
Maintenance and Care:
- Regular Inspection: Periodically check the compensator to ensure it remains securely fastened to the barrel.
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the compensator as part of your firearm maintenance routine, removing any carbon buildup or debris.
